Getting ready for the new moon

The moon has eight phases. The first phase is the new moon. It occurs every 29 1/2 days.

During this phase, the moon is not visible except during a solar eclipse when its silhouette is apparent due the illumination of earthshine. In astrology, the precise time the new moon appears is influenced by the geographical location of the observer.

The new moon represents the beginning of a cycle. It is seen as an excellent time to start something new.

Many farmers and gardeners plant seeds during the new moon so that the moon’s gravity pulls water up through the soil making it especially fertile.

Set aside time in the 48 hours around a new moon to set your intentions. The new moon is a clean slate upon which to recalibrate your future-focused energy and turn your dreams into reality.

  1. Be clear and start clean

To get what you want, you have to know what to ask for and how to ask for it. A new moon does not reflect light from the sun into the night sky so you must hone your intuition to be able to see.

Pick one or two things to set your intentions to. Don’t scatter your energy trying to initiate too many things at once. If you are not sure what to focus on, meditate on the answer to that question in the days leading up to the new moon while you’re reorganizing your closets and deep cleaning your space.

Make your bed, catch up on your laundry, scrub your tiles. Let the answer about what to cast your intentions on come to you when your mind is quiet and during periods of flow.

To create the conditions for new moon energy to move freely around you when it arrives, keep your front entrance free of obstacles in particular for maximum new moon feng shui.

Cut your hair, pluck your brows, and shave. Just before your new moon ceremony, shower.

  • Harness your creative energy to bring the fire

During a new moon, your creative energy is at its peak.

Use this energy to visualize the future you intend to create. The more specific you can be, the better.

To manifest your intentions, write down what they are in as much detail as possible or create a vision board using old magazine clippings.

Once a clear picture of the path forward emerges, unleash that vision into the universe by lighting a candle or cleansing the air with essential oils.

Throughout it all, stay focused on yourself and what you can control.
